Vendredi 16 décembre 12h15-13h45 – Uni Mail, Salle MR 280
40, Boulevard du Pont d’Arve
Speaker: Prof. Nikos Passas
Professor and Co-Director of Institute for Security and Public Policy Northeastern University School of Criminology and Criminal Justice and nd visiting Professor, Basel Institute on Governance.
Head of UN Sanctions Implementation Legal Review Services, Compliance Capacity and Skills International (CCSI)
The talk is about the global governance challenge of disparities between legality and legitimacy, especially corporate practices and activities from various industries, which are within the letter of the law and even promoted by governments, yet the consequences of these practices are a de facto externalization of significant costs and harm to society. The analysis will call for a rethinking of ethics and compliance objectives, public policy, legal requirements and the definitions of corruption or white-collar crime. A promising way forward are collective impact/action initiatives that coordinate the work of multiple stakeholders toward the solution of social problems within normative frameworks beyond the law.
