Digital Media and Heritage Tourism: a Map

We are pleased to invite you to a conference organized by the Centre Universitaire d’Informatique and the Confucius Institute :
« Digital Media and Heritage Tourism: a Map »
Tuesday, June 13, at 18:15 PM
Uni Mail, Room MR160
Prof. Lorenzo Cantoni

The presentation will explore the overlapping area between digital media, tourism and heritage, providing a map of it: the ‘ABCDE’ framework.
This framework, which has been presented in the Handbook on Heritage, Sustainable Tourism and Digital Media indicates five main areas of interaction: Access, Better, Connect, Dis-intermediate and Educate. Such dimensions will be presented through several cases and projects, highlighting related opportunities as well as challenges. In particular, the cases of #iWareBatik and “Machu Picchu Seen through the eyes of Fernando Astete” will be introduced and discussed.
Lorenzo Cantoni graduated in Philosophy and holds a PhD in Education and Linguistics. He is full professor at USI – Università della Svizzera italiana (Lugano, Switzerland), Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society, where he is director of the Institute of Digital Technologies for Communication. He is chair-holder of the UNESCO chair in “ICT to develop and promote sustainable tourism in World Heritage Sites”, established at USI in 2013. He is also board member of WHES – World Heritage Experience Switzerland and director of the Master in International Tourism; he has been also President of IFITT – International Federation for IT in Travel and Tourism (2014- 2018). Lorenzo Cantoni is USI’s Deputy Rector and Pro-rector for Education and Students’ experience.
