Giovanni Gellera

Giovanni Gellera est Professeur Assistant en histoire de la pensée philosophique et théologique moderne à l'IHR et intégré à la Faculté de Théologie. Il est le PI du projet At the Crossroads of Early Modernity: An Interdisciplinary Study of John Mair (c.1467-1550), financé dans le cadre du programme Consolidator Grant du FNS pour la période 2024-2029.

Il a obtenu son doctorat en histoire de la philosophie à l’Université de Glasgow en 2012, avec une thèse intitulée Natural Philosophy in the Graduation Theses of the Scottish Universities in the First Half of the Seventeenth Century. Entre 2010 et 2014, il a été Network Facilitator pour le projet international Scottish Philosophers in Seventeenth-Century Scotland and France, financé par The Leverhulme Trust.

Après un Visiting Fellowship à l’Université de Fribourg, il a participé comme post-doc au projet FNS de Christian Maurer Tolerance, Intolerance and Discrimination regarding Religion (2016-2020), à l’Université de Lausanne.

Giovanni Gellera a rejoint l’IHR une première fois dans le cadre du projet FNS A Disregarded Past - Medieval Scholasticism and Reformed Thought, dirigé par Ueli Zahnd, et avec Arthur Huiban et Zachary Seals (2020-2024).

Domaines de recherche

Ses recherches portent sur la pensée de la modernité, en particulier la pensée théologique et philosophique de John Mair (c.1467-1550); réformation et scolastique; philosophie écossaise (1400-1800); rapports entre scolastique et philosophie dite “moderne” (cartésianisme, droit naturel, lumières écossaises); histoire et réception du Scotisme ; la philosophie de James Dundas (c.1620-1679).
