Research Interest / Recherches
Richard Zimmermann received a Magister Artium from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, in English linguistics, psychology and philosophy. He then continued his studies in York, England, where he did his M.A. in general linguistics (with distinction), and is now pursuing his doctorate at the University of Geneva. Richard is interested in the syntax of Old English and other early Germanic languages. Using variationist analyses, he is attempting to find correlations between seemingly independent syntactic changes in Germanic in order to discover general mechanisms of language change. Other research interests include formal syntax frameworks, corpus statistics and historical-comparative phonology.
