Gioia Cacchioli holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Geneva (January 2026) and is currently a lecturer in the Department of Linguistics. Her research lies in theoretical syntax, with a specialization in the syntax of Semitic languages. Her work focuses in particular on Tigrinya, a Semitic language spoken in Eritrea and Ethiopia. She investigates a range of syntactic phenomena, including relative clauses, complement clauses, adverbial clauses, negation, modality, verum focus, hyperagreement, and polar particles.
