Gioia Cacchioli holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Geneva (January 2026). She is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Geneva. She specializes in theoretical syntax, particularly the syntax of Semitic languages. Her doctoral work investigated Tigrinya, a Semitic language spoken in Eritrea and Ethiopia. During her postdoctoral fellowship, she plans to extend this work to Amharic, Tigre, and other Ethio-Semitic languages. She focuses on subordination, including relative clauses, complement clauses and adverbial clauses. She has also worked on negation, modality, verum focus, and polarity particles.  Dr. Cacchioli is also a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Psychology & Speech Therapy Research Unit at the University of Geneva. She works on the SNSF-funded project "First language acquisition and foreign language learning in French-speaking children with DLD: Targeting grammar through explicit intervention", led by Hélène Delage and Emily Stanford. Her work within the project concerns second language acquisition, especially the acquisition and teaching of grammar.
