Description

Locality and Intervention effects: evidence from acceptability judgments

Sandra Villata  - Université de Genève

According to Featural Relativized Minimality (e.g., Rizzi 2013, Friedmann et al. 2009), the local relation between a moved element and its trace is disrupted as a function of the degree of feature overlap between these elements and the intervening one. In this talk we will present results from acceptability judgment studies testing several configurations involving various degrees of feature overlap. Results globally validate predictions ensuing from Featural Relativized Minimality with some interesting exceptions. We will discuss the implications of these results for Featural Relativized Minimality.
