| Description | Many historical linguists have agreed that the inflectional subjunctive in English, as illustrated in If he attend the meeting and God save the Queen, has been on the decline since the Middle Ages. In this talk I will trace the development of the English subjunctive in selected constructions over time and I will try to shed some light on the reasons for this development of the subjunctive mood. |
