CRTOH showcases precision oncology to Geneva’s Finance Committee

On 17 June 2026, the University of Geneva welcomed members of the Finance Committee of the Geneva Grand Council to the Centre Médical Universitaire (CMU) as part of the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine.

Following discussions with Rector Audrey Leuba, committee members were invited to discover several research platforms that contribute to advancing biomedical science and healthcare in Geneva. The visits were guided by Antoine Geissbühler, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, together with Vice-Dean Camilla Bellone and Serge Nef, Delegate of the Dean’s Office.

As part of the programme, the Translational Research Center in Onco-Hematology (CRTOH) had the opportunity to present its work in precision oncology. Through presentations by Olivier Michielin and Denis Migliorini, visitors gained insight into how immunotherapy, personalized medicine, and artificial intelligence are transforming cancer care and opening new possibilities for patients. The discussions highlighted the importance of translational research in accelerating the transfer of scientific discoveries into clinical applications that directly benefit patients.

The delegation also visited the Centre for Emerging Viral Diseases, led by Isabella Eckerle, which plays a key role in epidemic preparedness and response both in Switzerland and internationally. Another stop focused on fundamental biology and cell division research with Monica Gotta, whose laboratory investigates the mechanisms underlying life processes while developing innovative research methods aligned with the 3Rs principles (Reduce, Refine, Replace animal experimentation).

The visit was also attended by Sébastien Castelltort, Vice-Rector for Research, and Martine Collart, Vice-Rector for Education.
