The Geneva Centre of Humanitarian Studies becomes a WHO Collaborating Centre
The Geneva Centre of Humanitarian Studies has been designated as a Collaborating Centre of the World Health Organization (WHO). For a four-year period, it will provide its academic expertise to support the Organization’s humanitarian policy and operational activities, WHO has announced.
Directly affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva (UNIGE), the Geneva Centre of Humanitarian Studies has, for the past twenty-eight years, brought together interdisciplinary expertise in humanitarian education and research.
Through partnerships with organizations such as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), it works to strengthen the capacity of humanitarian professionals to respond to increasingly complex crisis situations. Since 2019, the Centre has been directed by Professor Karl Blanchet.
WHO Collaborating Centres are institutions—such as research institutes, university departments, or university-affiliated centres—officially designated by the Organization to support its programmes. There are now more than 700 such centres across more than 80 Member States. They collaborate with WHO on a wide range of fields, including nursing, occupational medicine, infectious diseases, nutrition, mental health, chronic diseases, and health technologies.
