Biodiversity and Human Health

Climate change, biodiversity loss and other global disruptions in planetary life-support systems have become major drivers of poor human health and therefore priorities in the Global Health agenda. To follow this evolving agenda, UNIGE’s MOOC on Global Health at the Human Animal Ecosystem Interface keeps updating its content and proposes two new sections on “Management of Ecosystems under Global Changes: Implication for Human Health“ and on “Health Benefits at the Human-Animal-Ecosystem Interface”. The first section brings the Planetary Health perspective and results from an interdisciplinary collaboration with experts from WHO, CBD, FAO etc. and builds from some of the content of the State of Knowledge Review on Connecting Global Priorities: Biodiversity and Human Health. The second section extends the view on One Health looking at questions such as the human-animal bond and health benefits, early-life interactions with animals and paediatric allergy and immunology etc.

Altogether, this new updated version of the MOOC includes now over 40 experts from a wide variety of fields and providing global perspectives along with local case studies. The MOOC was produced in partnership between the University of Geneva, Institute Pasteur and its global network, the Centre Virchow-Villermé for Public Health Paris-Berlin/Université Paris Descartes, University of Montreal, and thanks to the excellent contribution by experts from other institutions based in Geneva and beyond.
