Fleur is a Research Associate in the GeoHealth group of the Institute of Global Health and the Institute for Environmental Sciences. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Health- and Life Sciences from VU Amsterdam. In 2018, she obtained her Master in Toxicology and Environmental Health at Utrecht University, on infectious disease transmission and epidemic risk prediction from an interdisciplinary perspective. From 2016 to 2019 she was working as a research assistant in Global Health at the Julius Center in Utrecht where she supported website, educational, and research activities in the field of tropical medicine and global health. In 2019, Fleur started working towards obtaining her PhD under the supervision of Dr. Nicolas Ray. She obtained her PhD in June 2022. The focus of the PhD was on the effects of geographical accessibility to health care on infectious diseases in low- and middle-income countries. One of the projects was specifically aimed at analyzing the spatial distribution of rabies burden and geographical accessibility to post-exposure prophylaxis in Madagascar. Recently she has also been involved in post-cyclone accessibility modelling in Mozambique, to inform UNICEF’s operations in the aftermath of Cyclones Idai and Kenneth. Her research interests are strongly linked to using geospatial data to optimize health service delivery.
