Dr. Barbara Bertisch

Barbara Bertisch is an Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases physician. In 1992, she graduated from the Medical Faculty of Hamburg, Germany. Since then, her clinical work has focused on HIV, viral hepatitis and STDs. She worked at a centre for heroin-assisted treatment in Zürich, at the University Hospital Zürich, and at the Cantonal Hospital St. Gallen. In 2014, she joined Prof. Olivia Keiser’s group at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine, Bern and, in 2017, moved with the group to the Institute of Global Health at the University, Geneva. Dr. Bertisch also works as attending physician at Checkpoint Zürich (a gay-oriented healthcare center, with a focus on HIV and STDs). She enjoys translating her research experience into practice. Dr. Bertisch currently works on studies on anal cancer screening in HIV-infected patients, and on improving access to care and therapy outcomes among patients infected with hepatitis C.
