Since 2009, he has worked at the Secretariat of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria based in Geneva, first as a Program Officer in the Strategy, Policy and Evaluation Cluster from 2009 to 2011, and then subsequently as a Public Health/Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist focusing on western Africa portfolios (Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Guinea-Bissau).  Last year, he became Fund Portfolio Manager for the Guinea-Bissau and Cabo Verde portfolios.  He has a Masters degree in Public Health (Tulane University) and by October 2016 he will have completed the requirements for a Masters in Public Financial Management (University of London – School of Oriental and African Studies). Why is this PhD important for you (for your career, organisation or country)?

My long-term career aspiration is to someday have a senior leadership role in an international organization for health, and the world-class training I will receive from the faculty in the Institute of Global Health will help position me for success toward this goal.

Why did you choose our PhD?

The flexible, interdisciplinary nature of this program leads me to believe that it is highly compatible with my work at the Global Fund.  Moreover, the program will serve to reinforce synergies with the primary focus of my daily work, that is, managing the Guinea-Bissau portfolio of a three-year allocation of EUR 38 million for the three diseases and health systems strengthening.
