Background

I completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biomedical Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino, specializing in Biomedical Instrumentation. During my MSc thesis, carried out in Lugano in collaboration with SUPSI (Meditech) and the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale, I investigated slow oscillation dynamics during NREM sleep in Parkinson’s disease using a continuous spectral framework. My work focused on power analysis, the coupling between slow rhythms and faster oscillatory activity and neurophysiological profiling, with the aim of better characterizing sleep-related brain activity and its alterations in this population.

Current project

I am currently a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Laurent Sheybani, Prof. Anita Lüthi (University of Lausanne) and Prof. Serge Vulliémoz. My project will be carried out at the laboratory of Prof. Lüthi and will be based on the kainate mouse of hippocampal sclerosis. My research focuses on the role of sleep, and particularly slow oscillations, in epileptic activity. Specifically, I investigate how sleep electrophysiological entities, slow waves in particular, can modulate the risk of epilepsy, with the broader goal of improving our understanding of sleep-dependent mechanisms in epilepsy.
