Nathalie Ginovart obtained a PhD in neurosciences from the Université Claude Bernard in Lyon in 1994. She then completed a post-doctoral fellowship in psychiatric neuroimaging at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, where she deepened her expertise in molecular imaging applied to psychiatric disorders. Her research led to her appointment as Assistant Professor at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health at the University of Toronto in 1999, where she developed new molecular imaging tools and methods for the in vivo study of central monoaminergic systems.

In 2005, Nathalie Ginovart joined the Department of Psychiatry at the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine, where she consolidated and expanded her neuroimaging research programme. Her work focuses on identifying the neurobiological mechanisms and biological, behavioural, and environmental vulnerability factors involved in the development of addictions. Also actively engaged in Faculty life, she co-leads the Third-Year Teaching Unit on Neurosciences. She was appointed Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine in 2015, joined the Department of Basic Neuroscience in co-affiliation in 2020, and was then promoted to Full Professor in February 2026.
