Marc D. Ryser studied physics at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). After a master's degree, he pursued a PhD in mathematics at McGill University (Canada). In 2012, he joined Duke University (USA) for a postdoctoral fellowship in cancer modeling in the Department of Mathematics, followed by additional training in clinical research and cancer genomics in the Department of Surgery. Appointed Assistant Professor at Duke in 2018 and promoted to Associate Professor in 2024, he held a joint appointment between the Department of Population Health Sciences and the Department of Mathematics. While at Duke, he directed an interdisciplinary research group focused on advancing early cancer detection and mitigating breast cancer overdiagnosis and overtreatment through the multi-scale integration of biological, clinical, and population data. In 2025, he joined the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine as Full Professor in cancer epidemiology and Director of the Geneva Cancer Registry in the Department of Community Health and Medicine. He continues his research on cancer early detection and cancer epidemiology.
