The Swiss Cancer League is awarding its Robert Wenner Prize to two researchers: Camilla Jandus, Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Immunology at the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine, and Michal Bassani-Sternberg (UNIL/CHUV), for their work in cancer immunotherapy. Thanks to a new selection process, patients and their relatives were, for the first time, directly involved in choosing the prizewinners.

Camilla Jandus is recognised for her research on the immune response to cancer. Centred on patients, her work focuses on how immune cells recognise tumours and achieve lasting control over them. Her discoveries on the role of so-called helper cells have significantly advanced the understanding of effective immune responses against cancer. Her research has already led to several patented innovations, and new cellular therapeutic approaches are on the verge of clinical evaluation. Camilla Jandus combines scientific excellence with systematic attention to the needs of people affected by cancer and their loved ones.

A physician by training, Camilla Jandus completed her MD-PhD at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Lausanne, before joining the Ludwig Centre at UNIL as an associate researcher. Holder of an Ambizione grant and then a PRIMA grant from the SNSF, she was appointed Assistant Professor at the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine in 2020, then Associate Professor in 2026. She is a member of the Translational Research Centre in Oncohaematology (CRTOH) and the Geneva Centre for Inflammation Research (GCIR) at the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine, as well as iGE3. She is also an adjunct scientist at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (LICR). The Robert Wenner Prize adds to a series of distinctions, including the Leenaards Foundation Prize in 2025.
