Dimitri Van De Ville obtained a master’s degree in computer science in 1998, followed in 2002 by a PhD, from Ghent University, Belgium. Between 2002 and 2005, he conducted postdoctoral research within the Biomedical Imaging Group at EPFL. In 2005, he took charge of the Signal Processing Unit at the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine and HUG. This unit is part of the Centre for Biomedical Imaging (CIBM), a joint initiative of the Lake Geneva region institutions in the field of medical imaging. In 2009, he received a professorial fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and joined, as assistant professor, both the Department of Radiology and Medical Informatics at the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine and the Institute of Bioengineering at EPFL. He was appointed associate professor at both institutions in 2015, then promoted to full professor in May 2026. He heads the Medical Image Processing Laboratory at the Campus Biotech in Geneva, where he also contributes to the development of the MRI platform. He remains closely involved in CIBM activities, notably as section head.

His research focuses on developing innovative tools in medical imaging, signal processing, neuroimaging of the brain and spinal cord, and functional connectivity. His work aims to deepen understanding of the central nervous system and to propose new markers of cognitive and clinical states. His contributions have been recognised with the Pfizer Research Award 2012, the NARSAD Independent Investigator Award 2014, the Prix Scientifique Leenaards 2016, and the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Technical Achievement Award 2024. He was also appointed Fellow of the IEEE Signal Processing Society in 2020 and of EURASIP (European Association for Signal Processing) in 2023.
