Marco Roffi, Full Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Head of the Interventional Cardiology Unit at HUG, has been elected Vice-President of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) for the period 2026–2028. The ESC is the world's largest cardiovascular learned society, with nearly 70,000 members from national cardiac societies, 18 scientific journals, and an annual congress attracting more than 31,000 participants.

Trained in Bern and at the Cleveland Clinic in the United States, Marco Roffi holds dual FMH specialist titles in internal medicine and cardiology. A specialist in interventional cardiology, he developed his expertise in coronary, peripheral, and carotid interventions. He worked as a resident and then attending physician at the University Hospital of Zurich before joining HUG in 2008. He was appointed Associate Professor at the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine in 2011 and promoted to Full Professor in 2018.

His commitment to the ESC spans more than a decade: he has contributed to eight clinical guidelines, including the 2015 guidelines on myocardial infarction of which he is first author, and served as Scientific Programme Chair for the 2019 and 2020 congresses. Elected to the ESC Board of Directors for 2024–2026, he now takes on the Vice-Presidency. In 2023, he ranked among the top 2% most-cited scientists worldwide according to Stanford University's ranking, and among the ten most influential researchers at HUG.
