New appointments to the SAMS

Samia Hurst-Majno, Full Professor and Director of the Institute for Ethics, History, and the Humanities (iEH2) and of the Department of Community Health and Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, has been elected to the Executive Board of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS) by the SAMS Senate at its meeting on 18 June.

Samia Hurst-Majno has been a member of the SAMS Senate since 2015, contributing to numerous commissions. A physician and bioethicist, she also serves as a consultant to the Clinical Ethics Committee at Geneva University Hospitals (HUG). Her research focuses on vulnerable populations, equity in health policy, and research ethics.

New Senate members

At the same meeting, Thomas Agoritsas, Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine and Staff Physician in the Division of General Internal Medicine at HUG, and Christiane Eberhardt, Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics and Head of the Vaccination Centre at HUG, were elected as individual members of the Senate. Enos Bernasconi, titular professor at the Faculty of Medicine until his retirement in 2025, was elected an honorary member in recognition of his distinguished services to science and to the health system.
