Pelagia Tsoutsou elected President of the Scientific Association of Swiss Radiation Oncology

Pelagia Tsoutsou, Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology and Medical Informatics at the Faculty of Medicine, Co-Head of the Laboratory for Innovation in Radiobiology Applied to Radiotherapy (LiRR) and Head Physician of the Radio-Oncology Department, has been elected President of the Scientific Association of Swiss Radiation Oncology (SASRO), the multidisciplinary professional association dedicated to the development of this constantly evolving medical specialty. Pelagia Tsoutsou's role will be to lead the national organisation's efforts to develop radiation oncology and promote research and training, in particular to ensure the next generation of professionals in all fields related to this discipline.
SASRO's members include radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiobiologists, medical radiology technicians, specialist nurses and IT specialists. Together, these professions ensure that each patient receives the appropriate treatment. To ensure research and innovation, SASRO provides annual financial support for the training of the next generation of scientists. It also organises an annual conference, the 2027 edition of which will be held in Geneva. The association is also part of the international radiation oncology network through a formal partnership with the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO).
Trained in Greece and France, Pelagia Tsoutsou joined the radio-oncology team at the CHUV in 2011, the Valais Hospital in 2014, then became head physician of the Radio-Oncology Department at the Neuchâtel Hospital in 2015. A Privat Docent at UNIL in 2016, she has been conducting research at the HUG since 2017 with the aim of creating a cross-disciplinary network in French-speaking Switzerland around radio-oncological senology, which has resulted in the "Réseau romando-tessinois de sénologie" (Romandy-Ticino Senology Network). In 2019, she took over as head of the HUG Division of Radio-Oncology and was appointed associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine.
