Antoine Geissbühler honoured by the International Medical Informatics Association

Antoine Geissbühler, Dean of the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine, Director of Teaching and Research and Head of the Division of e-Health and Telemedicine at the HUG, received the François Grémy Award of Excellence by the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA). The leading association in the field, it provides leadership and expertise to the international community to ensure that digital transformation supports equitable global health that meets the needs of populations.

Antoine Geissbühler, an internist and specialist in medical IT, works on the design and application of new IT tools in the medical field. He has led many national and international initiatives, including helping to implement Switzerland's e-health strategy and developing the RAFT project, a major telemedicine network linking hundreds of healthcare professionals in 20 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. He is also Chairman of the Board of the Geneva Digital Health Hub, an initiative supported by the Swiss Confederation that aims to bring together institutions involved in digital health projects and lay the foundations for effective collaboration to amplify the potential of digitisation in medicine around the world.

Currently president of BioAlps, the life sciences cluster for Western Switzerland, he has also directed the HUG's Innovation Centre and, as vice-rector, has steered the UNIGE's digital and innovation strategy until 2023.  

The IMIA Excellence Award pays tribute to Dr François Grémy, a pioneer in medical informatics and one of the founders of IMIA.  Awarded every two years, it honours individuals whose personal commitment and work in research, education, development or application of medical informatics have made a lasting contribution to medicine and healthcare.
