April 11 2022: PhD defence of Mrs Karina Lindner

On the 11th of April 2022, Mrs Karina LINDNER defended succesfully her PhD thesis entitled "Apolipoprotein E Lipidation in Alzheimer Disease". Her thesis was conducted under the direction of Prof. Anne-Claude GAVIN from the Department of Cell physiology and metabolism.

Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) is the major lipoprotein in the brain that connects the metabolic interactions between astrocytes and neurons. The E4 variant (APOE4) affects this function and represents a genetic predisposition for Alzheimer’s disease, but the molecular mechanisms remain unclear. In her PhD thesis, Karina Lindner used cell-free in vitro assays, a new cell system and lipidomics to elucidate how ApoE acts on the molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease.
