PhD defence of Mrs Tania Jauslin

On December 14 2021, Mrs Tania Jauslin successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled "Dictyostelium discoideum effectors of intracellular killing of bacteria". Her thesis was conducted under the direction of Prof. Pierre Cosson from the Department of Cell physiology and metabolism.

Phagocytosis and bacterial killing are major actors of innate immunity. Phagocytes use various mechanisms to destroy bacteria: acidification of phagosomes, production of reactive oxygen species, of antimicrobial proteins, or of degradative enzymes. The relative importance nor the degree of specificity of each of these mechanisms against different species of bacteria is still not fully understood. In her PhD thesis, Tania Jauslin used the unicellular soil amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum as a model organism to analyze intracellular killing of bacteria.
