A new PHYM research group

The department is delighted to announce that, after his plenary lecture entitled “Cystic fibrosis: it’s all about communication”, Prof. Marc Chanson is promoted as Full Professor and becomes the 16th research group in the department.

From July 1st 2020, Prof. Marc Chanson’s primary affiliation is the PHYM department, where he has already forged rich collaborations as a clinical affiliate. His research is focused on the role of gap junctions in cystic fibrosis, whose regulation has been demonstrated to be defective in cystic fibrosis epithelial cells. His group consists of two postdoctoral fellows Dr Mehdi Badaoui and Dr Juliette Simonin, a PhD student Tahir Idris and a lab technician Marc Bacchetta.

Prof. Marc Chanson completed his PhD in Sciences in 1991 at the University of Geneva and conducted postdoctoral studies in the USA and in the Netherlands from 1991 to 1995. In 1995, he started to work at Geneva University Hospitals and moved to the Medical University Center (CMU) in 2014, as a group leader in the Department of Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics.

The department warmly welcomes him and all the members of his group.
