Aug 24 2022: PhD defence of Mrs Dobrochna Dolicka

On the 24th of August 2022, Mrs Dobrochna Dolicka successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled "AU-rich elements-binding proteins in fatty liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma". Her thesis was conducted under the direction of Prof. Michelangelo Foti and Dr Cyril Sobolewski from the Department of Cell physiology and metabolism.

Hepatocellular carcinoma is a frequent liver cancer with few and poorly efficient therapeutic options. Recent evidence suggests that alterations of certain proteins that regulate gene expression, AU-rich elements-binding proteins AUBPs, may favor the development of chronic liver diseases and their progression towards cancer. The PhD thesis of Dobrochna Dolicka aimed thus to investigate the role of AUBPs  in fatty liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma in order to open new therapeutic avenues for these severe diseases.
