PhD defence of Mrs Jessica Brunetti

On October 4 2021, Mrs Jessica Brunetti sucessfully defended her PhD thesis entitled "Physiological Roles Of Store-Operated Calcium Entry (SOCE) During In Vitro Maturation Of Human Myotubes". Her thesis was conducted under the direction of Prof. Maud Frieden from the Department of Cell physiology and metabolism.

Calcium modulates numerous cellular functions, but some of its mechanisms of regulation remain still unknown. Jessica Brunetti has studied the role of the store-operated calcium entry (SOCE), a pathway involved in muscle formation, and more specifically the implication of the protein STIM1 and its variant STIM1 long . Her PhD thesis provides new insights into the role played by calcium in the maturation of human muscle fibers.

Jessica Brunetti will now complete her ongoing project in the laboratory of Prof. Maud Frieden by the end of the month, before trying to move into the world of clinical trials or regulatory affairs.
