Which reagent for muscle cell transfection

Cell transfection is widely used by researchers in cell biology. It allows the introduction of genetic material such as DNA or RNA into cells and thereby the modulation of the expression of a protein of interest. There are many transfection reagents available, but surprisingly, the vast majority of studies conducted on muscle cells have used a single reference reagent.

A comparative study of transfectant efficacy in muscle cells

The high cost of the gold standard reagent combined with its low efficacy suggested in previous reports, led researchers from the laboratory of Pr. Perrine Castets to compare it with four yet uncharacterized commercial reagents. Their recent publication in Experimental Cell Research demonstrated that at least two of these transfectants can serve as low-cost alternatives to the current gold standard reagent in muscle cells.
