Aurélien Lathuilière is a clinical neurologist and neuroscientist interested in neurodegenerative disorders.
He obtained his medical degree from the University of Geneva and then joined the group of Patrick Aebischer at EPFL where he received his MD-PhD.
After a residency in clinical neurology at the Geneva University Hospital, he has spent two years at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard Medical School in Boston where he has built a strong expertise in the study of tau pathophysiology in the group of Prof. Bradley Hyman. He also developed his clinical skills as a clinical fellow in dementia in the Memory Disorders Unit of MGH.
Since 2021, he is a faculty neurologist at the Memory Center of the Geneva University Hospitals working with Prof. Giovanni Frisoni.
His research is intended at studying the mechanisms of physiological and pathological tau cell-to-cell propagation in Alzheimer’s disease and other tauopathies. His current research projects aim at developing tools to detect seeding-competent pathological tau conformers in human samples and study the mechanisms of tau uptake and secretion.
Aurélien is dedicated to dementia research and takes benefit from his dual background and current activities in the lab and at the Memory Center to develop translational projects.
Since his PhD, he has also been involved in the clinical development of encapsulated cell technology for the delivery of therapeutic proteins. He is the author of several patents in this field and collaborate with several biotech companies.
