The outcome of number of different diseases, including autoimmune disorders, are influenced by dietary habits and obesity and are in part mediated by a changed microbiota composition. The alterations in the gut and the fat tissue in disease development, may be linked since changes in the gut immune cell infiltration were recently linked to an altered inflammation state of the fat tissue. Martina's work focuses on the role of the immune cell status of the gut and the fat on initiation and progression of diseases.
Martina likes to go on hikes and long photo walks. She enjoys eating good pizza and she is working on improving her skills to create a perfect Italian, stone baked pizza at home.
