Perrine Castets did her studies at the Ecole Normale Supérieure Ulm in Paris, France and, obtained a competitive French teaching diploma in General Biology in 2004 (Agrégation de Biologie). She then performed her PhD at the Institute of Myology in Paris, under the supervision of Prof. Pascale Guicheney and Dr. Valérie Allamand, focusing on the pathomechanisms underlying SEPN1-related myopathies. She obtained her PhD from the University Pierre and Marie Curie of Paris in 2009. In 2010, she moved to Basel, Switzerland, to work as a shared post-doc in the group of Prof. Michael Sinnreich (Department of Biomedicine) and Prof. Markus Rüegg (Biozentrum), on the role of mTORC1 pathway in the regulation of autophagy in skeletal muscle. In 2013, she obtained an Ambizione SNSF grant, which allowed her to develop her group at the Biozentrum and to work on the role of metabolic pathways on the maintenance of neuromuscular junctions. She received an SNSF Eccellenza Professorial Fellowship in 2018 and joined the Medical Faculty of the University of Geneva in 2019 as an assistant professor.
