La Fontaine at the digital school

"La Fontaine à l'école Numérique" project, promoting the entry into classes of editions digitized by the Bodmer Lab of Fables of La Fontaine, was recently approved by the Geneva's department of public instruction. This project will be carried out as part of Barbara Siegrist's doctoral thesis, under the supervision of Prof. Jérôme David of the Faculty of Letters.

Evolving Language

The Swiss National Science Foundation will support a new PRN, “Evolving language”, piloted by the universities of Geneva and Zurich. This new national research center will help to unravel the mystery of the evolution of language and to develop new digital diagnostic and neuro-engineering strategies for treating the pathologies associated with it.

Swiss digital barometer

On the eve of the federal elections on October 20, 2019, Swico launched the “Digital Barometer 2019” in collaboration with the online electoral aid “smartvote” and the Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH, as well as in collaboration with the universities of Zurich and Geneva.

#DigCite

#DigCite offers theoretical and methodological tools to analyze and give meaning to forms and experiences of digital citizenship. At present, citizens exercise many political, economic and social rights and duties through the use of information technologies. Nowadays, digital skills enable the development of online civic participation practices that challenge the relationship between the individual and democratic institutions and practices. Social networks are reshaping community boundaries while at the same time renewing the repertoires of collective mobilization. An analysis of how digital citizenship interacts with traditional forms of civic engagement is therefore crucial. #DigCite is responding to this challenge by mobilizing the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary skills necessary for a thorough analysis of how citizen digital practices encourage new forms of political inclusion and exclusion.

City 3D

A team from the University of Geneva, led by Dimitri Konstantas, is developing a pilot project for augmented reality glasses to see underground pipes in 3D. The pilot project, called City 3D, is funded by Innosuisse, the Swiss Agency for Innovation Promotion.

OPENQKD

OPENQKD aims to change the way we see, understand and use quantum communication. Its main purpose is to create and test communication network infrastructures with an integrated quantum element, known as Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). The secret keys distributed by QKD offer ultra-secure encryption that allows the transmission of data with a very high level of security. This project will lay the groundwork for a pan-European quantum communication infrastructure that will use both satellite and terrestrial solutions.

Rougemont 2.0

This project intends to take advantage of the current growth of the digital humanities to produce a scientific edition of Denis de Rougemont's (1906-1985) unpublished works and manuscripts, his correspondence and documents related to his activities as a European activist. The publication of these data on a website, in open access, will be accompanied by the regular publication of research works to shed light on and renew the twentieth century political, literary and intellectual history, as well as the stakes contemporaries on Europe and the European construction.

Beekee Box

The Beekee Box is a portable learning platform that works without internet. Turns on the box to create a local wireless network and let the learners connect to it using their own devices to retrieve documents, collaborate in real time and follow complete training courses.

BabelDr

"BabelDr, an innovative functional tool for translating medical language". This tool allows emergency physicians to understand and be understood by allophone patients. A necessity in a cosmopolitan canton, where 52% of patients are of foreign nationality of which nearly 14% do not speak French at all.
