I work as a PhD student in a research project that focuses on detection, quantification and characterisation of microplastics in the drinking water treatment sector and the distribution network. Dr. Serge Stoll from the Department F.-A. Forel for Environmental and Aquatic Sciences is supervising this project. The goal is to assess the situation and dynamics of microplastics in drinking water treatment systems and the distribution network. Comprehending the behaviour of microplastics in a drinking water station can be a great asset to improve technologies and decrease the concentration or even eliminate microplastics from drinking water, thereby, reducing human health risks related to microplastics and other risks associated with the substances used in plastic fabrication. My methods include microplastic isolation of water samples, microscopy and infrared spectroscopy.

Before starting my PhD, I did my B.S in Civil Engineering in the “Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México” in Mexico and my MSc. at the university of Geneva, studying environmental sciences.
