A dialogue between youth and heads of key international agencies

 

Tourism, Culture, Sports are indispensable to human wellbeing. The pandemic has hit these sectors particularly hard and the return to our pre-crisis habits appears difficult.Confined at home, these leisure activities have been drastically reduced or transformed. Learning from the crisis and its consequences we may take the opportunity to imagine new ways to enjoy tourism, sports and culture while building more sustainable and equitable services and share benefits more efficiently.

On the occasion of its 75th anniversary, the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) organises a second edition of the UN75 Dialogues in Geneva with the youth.

At the University of Geneva, Cecilia Raziano González, assistant at the Department of Geography and Raphaël Languillon-Aussel (Dr), researcher at the Environmental Governance and Territorial Development Institute will share their thoughts and questions on the impact of the pandemic on tourism. Specifically, they will discuss how the dramatic impacts of the COVID19 crisis are obscuring the complexity of the issues that face local tourism stakeholders. Therefore how to set up a how to set up bottom up coordination dynamics these stakeholders to overcome the crisis? Students from the Graduate Institute and Foraus will focus on the impact of the health crisis on sport and culture.

These young people will present their analysis and engage in a dialogue with Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay, President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach, and Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organisation Zurab Pololikashvili.

This dialogue will be complemented by contributions from Brazilian footballer Marta, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Mukhisa Kituyi, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction ASG Mami Mizutori, UNOG Director-General Tatiana Valovaya, and United Nations USG Fabrizio Hochschild.

This event is organised by the UN Office at Geneva in collaboration with the Graduate Institute of International ans Development Studies, the University of Geneva and foraus.
