H2020 Reloaded

Strategies and tools to boost scientific and industrial innovation in the Geneva area.
With the full association of Switzerland to the framework programme H2020, Research Services organises an event to update and promote the innovation aspects inherent to the programme.
What are the challenges and opportunities for the scientific and innovative industrial sector of the Geneva area? Which strategies are to be considered? Which are the European funding schemes to be targeted by scientists and SME to maximize their chances of success?

The morning session will address strategic aspects of research and innovation for the scientific and local industrial landscape; the afternoon programme will be dedicated to funding schemes for SME only.

Guest speakers include : Wolfgang Burtscher (European Commission), Daniel Loeffler (SPEG), Direction de SwissCore Bruxelles, Denis Hochstrasser (UNIGE Rectorate), Laure Ognois-Zaugg (UNIGE Research Services), Emile Dupont (Euresearch Head Office), Eva Servoli (SME Contact Point Euresearch Genève, UNIGE Research Services),  Inès Rossetti (EEN Switzerland),  Inspiralia (Spain).

The event is for researchers and SME from the Geneva area. The attendance is free of charge but registration is compulsory.

H2020 : Associated !

Switzerland is fully associated to Horizon 2020 as of 1 January 2017, thus for the remaining four years of H2020 (2017-2020).
Projects for which the grant agreement has already been signed are not affected by the new full association. Funding for these projects is guaranteed from the same funding source for the entire duration of the project – State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) or European Commission (EC).
Proposals which are not yet submitted must take into account that they are funded by the EC with Switzerland being an Associated Country. This means that their budget must be requested from the EC ("EC requested funding" column should not be zero). This also affects the eligibility criteria for collaborative projects, where the minimum requirement of 3 partners from 3 different Member States or Associated Countries now includes Switzerland.
Proposals already submitted or evaluated but for which the contract is signed as of 1 January 2017 are treated as an Associated Country with full funding by the EC.

CUS-P3 Programme

The final conference of the program "performances de la recherche en sciences humaines et sociales" took place in Berne in November 2016 and was coordinated by Alexander Hasgall, scientific coordinator hosted at UNIGE since 2014.

Representatives of rectorates and researchers, the state Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation, the Swiss National Science Foundation and other institutions discussed the results of the program and current challenges. In a podium moderated by the Director of the Research Services, Laure Ognois-Zaugg, the challenges posed by scientific research in the context of evaluation procedures were discussed separately.
The videos of the conference are available here

SNSF supports researchers affected by travel ban

The US government's travel ban on citizens from 7 countries (Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Syria) also affects researchers supported by the SNSF.

Ensuring that all the affected researchers are able to continue their work is of great importance to the SNSF. It therefore asks all SNSF-funded researchers affected by the travel ban to contact the SNSF.

Euresearch annual meeting of Regional Offices

On 30th and 31st January, responsible members of the Regional Offices and National Contact Points of EURESEARCH met for their first 2017 meeting at Campus Biotech. During these two days, three highly appreciated visits were organized in collaboration with the Research Service of the UNIGE : Campus Biotech Foundation, Human Brain Project and Wyss Center.

Euresearch - University of Geneva hosted on January 24th an information & networking event for researchers and SME, where European funding opportunities in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) were presented.
The intervention of the National Contact Point (Euresearch) was followed by short talks where professors (UNIGE and HES-SO) and SME (SixSq – based in Meyrin, Geneva) active in these two European programmes shared their extensive experience with the public.
A round table involving all the speakers was followed by a Q&A session open to the whole audience.

Humanities and social sciences

The SNSF is extending its temporary measure to improve the participation rate of women from humanities and social sciences at the European level by one year.
Women researchers in the humanities and social sciences who were rejected in the second evaluation stage by the ERC will benefit from simplified submission conditions in SNSF project funding and career funding schemes in 2017. The proposal has to be submitted one year after rejection by the ERC at the latest.

The SNSF Geneva Research Commission (COREC) held an information session for candidates on an SNSF scholarship (Doc.CH, Doc.Mobility and Early Postdoc Mobility) on February 9th at Uni Mail.
