In my professional life, I had to learn early on to assert myself in the harsh reality of not exactly women-friendly organizations – first in academia then in business. Much became clearer when I wrote a study on female career obstacles for the German Ministry of Education in 2000. In my over 25 years as an advisor in business ethics I have learned that sensitive topics like discrimination exist everywhere, that people often do not dare to speak-up on them, and that they make people unhappy and less productive.
