The Rectorate is the University's executive and governing body. It is responsible for the University's general policy, strategy and multi-year planning, as well as external relations, in particular with political authorities and other teaching and research institutions.

At its meeting on 22 November 2023, and following consultation with the Strategic Orientation Council, the University Assembly appointed Professor Audrey Leuba as Rector of the University of Geneva. On 29 November, the Council of State appointed her for the period from 1st April 2024 to 14 July 2028.
