Thomas Cornaz est chercheur postdoctorant dans le cadre du projet financé par le FNS Mass Death, Science and Medicine: Handling the Corpses of War in Modern Europe (1850–1960) à la Maison de l’Histoire. Il est titulaire d'un doctorat en histoire contemporaine de l'Université de Genève, mention Summa cum laude. Ses recherches dans le domaine de l'histoire des représentations portent sur l'expérience des combattants durant les conflits du 19e et 20e siècle, sur la neutralité et sur la production et la transmission de chansons populaires.
 

Sa thèse de doctorat, soutenue en 2026, propose une réflexion sur la Première Guerre mondiale et sur les mécanismes de sens trouvés par les combattants des tranchées, combinant l'étude des égodocuments à une analyse sociologique et psychologique.

Thomas Cornaz is a postdoctoral researcher on the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF)-funded project Mass Death, Science and Medicine: Handling the Corpses of War in Modern Europe (1850–1960) at la Maison de l’Histoire. He holds a Ph.D. in contemporary history from the University of Geneva, awarded Summa cum laude. His researches in the field of the history of representations focus on the experiences of soldiers during 19th- and 20th-century conflicts, on neutrality, and on the production and transmission of popular songs.

His dissertation, defended in 2026, offers a reflection on World War I and the mechanisms of meaning found by soldiers in the trenches, combining the study of personal documents with sociological and psychological analysis.
