27.03.2019 - Prof. Evelina Trutnevyte gives a seminar at the Swiss Federal Office of Energy

On 27 March 2019, Evelina Trutnevyte visited the Swiss Federal Office of Energy and gave a talk on the spatial patterns of renewable electricity growth in Switzerland and the associated implications on the generation cost efficiency and regional equity. Based on a study with the PhD student Jan-Philipp Sasse, they show that a significant trade-off exists in Switzerland by 2035: a 50% increase in regional equity when allocating decentralized renewable generation so that various Swiss regions benefit leads to 18% higher total electricity generation costs. Least-cost allocation implies concentrating renewable generation and associated investments in a few most productive locations only. Solar PV emerges as the key technology for increasing regional equity at reasonable generation costs.
