Policy on the management of research data

The topic of research data has become central to the current discussion on good practices in research and the dissemination of research results, both in Switzerland with the SNSF and around the world. The management of research data is also essential in the context of the University's digital strategy.

In this context, we are pleased to inform you that the Rectorate has validated an Institutional Policy on the Management of Research Data which has been developed within the framework of a working group (composed of representatives of our scientific community and our divisions and services concerned) chaired by the undersigned. The University of Geneva is the first Swiss university to adopt such a policy and to affirm the importance, for the excellence of its research, of good data management. Through this document, the University also recalls the responsibilities of the institution on the one hand, and of researchers on the other.

Institutional policy requires the University to support researchers in the face of new requirements imposed by funding agencies. In this context, the Scientific Information Division is organising a new DMP Week at the various UNIGE sites from 10 to 20 September next, with workshops devoted to the SNSF Data Management Plan (DMP), a document that must necessarily accompany all new project applications (limited number of places). This week will be introduced by a meeting with a SNSF representative on Tuesday 4 September. Detailed information on these events, as well as on the management of research data, is available on the pages of the ResearchData website. Feel free to use the site's contact form for all your requests related to research data.
