La sociologie à l'Université de Genève

Le Département de Sociologie de l'Université de Genève a une longue tradition derrière lui. Fondé en 1886, il s'agit d'un des plus anciens départements de cette discipline dans le monde. Nombre de scientifiques célèbres ont enseigné à l'Université de Genève, tels que Sismondi, Louis Wuarin, Jean Piaget ou Roger Girod. Aujourd’hui le Département et l’Institut de recherches sociologiques compte près de 80 chercheurs/euses et enseignant-es, et est l'une des écoles de sociologie la plus importante de Suisse. Ils puisent leurs forces dans la multiplicité des approches et écoles qui y sont représentées à travers ses membres. Le profil des enseignements favorise pour sa part l'approche méthodologique plutôt que thématique. Le Département et l'Institut propose des diplômes de bachelor, de master et de doctorat en sociologie. La recherche est un autre point fort avec de nombreux projets et mandats aux niveaux international, national et local.


Sociology at the University of Geneva has a long tradition. Founded in 1886, the Department is one of the oldest of this discipline in the world. Many famous scholars taught sociology in Geneva, such as Jean de Sismondi, Louis Wuarin, Jean Piaget or Roger Girod. Today, the Department and the Institute of sociological research count about 80 researchers and teachers and is one of the most important sociology school in Switzerland. The profile of teaching is more methodological than thematic orientated and has its strengths in the multiplicity of approaches and schools represented. The Department and the Institute deliver Bachelor, Masters and PhD in sociology. Research is another strength with many projects and mandates at the international, national and local levels.
