COURSE REGISTRATION

 

Do I have to register for my courses? Is there a deadline?

Yes, you must register for your courses via your portail.unige.ch during the course registration period.

NOTE: The registration for courses on CHAMILO is not linked to the student office but only to your teachers. You must register via portail.unige.ch.

You will receive an email inviting you to register for your courses:

• in October for annual and fall semester courses,

• in March for spring semester courses.

EXCEPTIONS:Course registration is not necessary for:

• Master of Science in Geology

• Doctoral students

• Mobility students

• Pre/co-requisites/extra curricular study plans

• Master of Advanced Studies

• Students from other faculties (except Bachelor of « Archéologie préhistorique et anthropologie » students)

• Athena students

• Unregistered students

I don’t have enough lines on my online form to register for all my courses, what should I do?

Please send an email to the student office, during the registration period, indicating how many additional lines you require and for which group.

All requests/enquiries regarding online registration must be sent by email only.

Please make sure to mention your full name and student number in order to facilitate the processing of your request.

I have previously registered for a course that I have decided not to attend. Could you please remove this course from my study plan?

The student office does not delete any courses, especially if there is a grade attributed to it.

When you have successfully finished your degree, the student office will remove any courses for which no ECTS credits have been attributed from your final transcript (provided these courses are not compulsory or part of a group).

A course is missing from my online course registration form, how can I register for it?

In October, you are only able to register for annual and fall semester courses. Please make sure that you are not attempting to register for a spring semester course.

If a course is missing, please send an email email to the student office, during the registration period, indicating which course is missing (please mention course code and full title).

All requests/enquiries regarding online registration must be sent by email only.

I don’t have access to my third year/master online registration form because I have not yet finished my second year/bachelor. How can I register?

Please download this form and email deposit it, duly completed and signed, to the student office during the course registration period.

I have forgotten to register for my courses and the registration deadline has passed, what should I do?

Please download this form and email/deposit it , duly completed and signed, to the student office as soon as possible.

I’m a student from another faculty, how can I register for a course?

You do not need to register for the course.

You should contact your teachers to inform them that you are attending their course. They will let you know if you need to register for the course on Chamilo.

 

 

EXAM REGISTRATION

 

Do I have to register for my exams? Is there a deadline?

Note : It is strongly advised to take an exam at the exam session that is following the course, indeed the course content may vary from one year to another.

1) Please complete the exam registration form. You can either download this form or find it, during the exam registration period, on the table outside the student office,

Except Mobility students : you have to define a study plan with your sponsor (“répondant” UNIGE) using this form . The latter is automatically registered for exams.

2) This form, signed and dated, must be presented to the student office (during opening hours, and registration period) with your valid student ID card.

Students in Master in Earth Sciences (Geology) do not need to register.

Do I have to pass my exams at the exam session that follows the course? What happens if I don’t come to the exam?

The February session includes exams from the fall semester courses only. The June session includes exams from the spring semester and annual courses. The August session includes exams from all semesters.

You may choose to make your first attempt at an exam at the August session or the following year as long as you are within your studies deadline and that you have completed any pre-requisite exam.

NOTE: All students of Bachelor of pharmaceutical sciences must take their exams at the exam session that is following the courses.

Be careful if you choose to postpone an exam. You have to make sure to have the time to take it at another exam session (and possibly to try again if you fail). You need to respect your study duration and achieve 20 ECTS credits during the first two semesters at the University of Geneva or you will be subject to academic elimination.

I am taking a course at another faculty. Where do I have to register for my exams?

If the course is part of your study plan, you simply register with your Faculty. There is no need to register with both Faculties.

However, if you the course is “hors cursus/ plan libre” meaning not part of your study plan, you will have to register with both Faculties.

NOTE: each faculty has their own registration dates: :

• Faculty of law: please download, complete and hand over this form to their student office within the registration period.

• Geneva school of economics and management: please download, complete and hand over this form to their student office within the registration period.

• Geneva school of social sciences: please download, complete and hand over this form to their student office within the registration period.

• Faculty of humanities: please contact the student office of the Faculty of humanities during their registration period.

• Faculty of Psychology and educational sciences: no registration with the student office is necessary.

• University of Lausanne: please visit their website for detailed information.

I am entitled to a third attempt for an exam, why is it not available on my online form?

The student office must amend your form manually to allow you to register for a third attempt. Please contact the student office by mail, during the registration period, with the details of the exam (course title, course code (e.g. 10M010), the name(s) of the teacher(s) and the evaluation mode (oral or written).

NOTE: according to the “Règlement d’études général de la Faculté des Sciences” Art. 13, alinéa 2 (General regulations of the Faculty of Science), you are entitled to only one third attempt per year of study for one exam corresponding to this year.

An exam that I have already successfully passed is still available on my online form, why?

For some exams, it is possible to register again to achieve a better grade. Please note that the second attempt suppresses the first, even if the second grade is lower!

Please note that grades of 6 do not appear on the form !

I have been granted/ I have made a request for an exception (“derogation”) following my elimination but the exam registration are closed/soon closing. Will I be automatically registered for my exams?

You will not be registered automatically to your exams. Please download this form and return it, duly completed and signed, to the student office by email or directly at the office during the registration period indicating your situation.

I have forgotten to register and the registration deadline has passed, what should I do?

Please download this form and email /bring it, duly completed, to the student office as soon as possible.

Late registration is exceptional and will only be allowed once during your studies!

I would like to withdraw from an exam, what should I do? Is there a deadline?

Once you have received the email announcing the exam timetable, you are allowed to withdraw from a maximum of 2 exams.

To withdraw from an exam you need to complete this form and email/bring it, duly completed, to the student office before the deadline.

NOTE: All students in the Bachelor of pharmaceutical sciences must take the exam at the exam session that is following the course.

I was not able to come to my exam, what should I do?

If you were not able to come to your exam because of medical reasons, you have to send or bring a medical note to the student office in the 3 days following the exam. The note needs to be signed and stamped by the doctor with the start/end date of medical incapacity clearly stated.

The certificate can be sent by post, brought to the student office or placed in the red letterbox next to the office door if the office is closed. You can also ask someone to bring it for you. We do not accept copies or scanned medical notes.

If you do not have a medical certificate or a valid motive for having missed the exam, you will obtain the grade 0.
