Laure Moinat Receives a Tremplin Grant

Laure Moinat, a PhD candidate in the Department of Physics and the Institute for Environmental Sciences, has been awarded a Tremplin Grant, which will enable her to undertake an academic research stay at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This opportunity will strengthen the international collaborations she has already established with a professor and their research group at MIT, while also helping her prepare for a future postdoctoral project.

After earning both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Physics, with a specialization in Applied Physics, from the University of Geneva, Laure Moinat pursued doctoral research. Her PhD focuses on the study of Earth’s different climate states and their evolution over the past million years. By investigating these past climate transitions, her work aims to improve our understanding of the possible future trajectories of the climate system in the context of ongoing anthropogenic climate change.

As the author of several scientific publications, she has already received recognition at both the national and international levels. Her research has been honored with awards from the Swiss Academy of Sciences and the European Geosciences Union, distinctions that reflect the quality of her work and provide a strong foundation for an academic career.

Laure’s research focuses on the global climate system and its multiple equilibrium states. Her stay at MIT will allow her to incorporate methods and approaches traditionally used in atmospheric sciences into her research, with the goal of improving our understanding of future climate evolution. This experience will also provide an opportunity to deepen existing international collaborations and to prepare a postdoctoral project that she hopes to pursue at the same institution.
