Concerning the fall 2020 exam session :
NO CHANGE TO THE SPRING EXAM SCHEDULE
The dates initially announced by the Faculties and interfaculty Centres and Institutes for the end of this semester’s classes and for August-September 2020 exam sessions will remain the same.
MIX OF ONLINE AND IN-PERSON EXAM SESSION
The federal and cantonal authorities have gradually loosened the public-health rules, which means that we can return to in-person exams provided that social distancing is maintained. The August/September 2020 exam session will therefore be a mix of online and in-person exams. In early July – at the latest ten days before the exam sign-up deadline – your faculty or centre will provide you with the details of how your exams will be run.
As a general rule, the Rectorate recommends that retakes of exams from the January/February 2020 session be conducted in person and those from the May/June 2020 session be conducted online. However, exceptions will be allowed, and this will be left up to each faculty or center's dean's office or direction team.
EXAMS COUNTED AS ATTEMPTS
In keeping with the 25 March directive, if you have been automatically signed up for the August/September 2020 exam session, you will be able to withdraw from all or part of the session, following the procedure set out by your faculty or centre. Barring any exceptions authorized by your faculty or centre, the exams taken during the August/September 2020 session will count as attempts, and you will not automatically be excused if you fail to turn up for an exam.
To ensure the safety of all those involved, in-person exams will be run in strict compliance with the coronavirus-related public-health recommendations. All students who have signed up must attend the exams, even those at especially high risk.
Incoming exchange students who have returned home because of the public-health crisis and who cannot therefore take their exams in person must contact the designated person within their faculty or centre directly.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CONTINUING A STUDY PROGRAM
Faculties, centres and institutes are authorized to deviate from the current requirements for continuing a study program so that students can be granted a conditional pass for the year. Students will be informed of the new requirements once they have been approved by the relevant dean's office or management team.
STUDENTS CALLED UP FOR PUBLIC SERVICE OR SUPPORTING THEIR COMMUNITY
Students who have been called up by the army, a hospital or another public institution can be granted leave for the 2020 spring semester. They must submit their request by 30 April 2020. All other students, especially those who are supporting their community, can also submit a request. Students who have been granted leave cannot take exams during the May-June or August-September 2020 exam sessions.
