Dr. Donat Fäh is presently Professor at the ETH Zurich (ETHZ), and the head of the Earthquake hazard and risk assessment section of the Swiss seismological service. After receiving a Diploma in geophysics from the ETHZ in 1985, he carried out Ph.D. studies at the Institute of Geophysics of the University of Trieste (Italy) and at the ETHZ in the field of seismic strong motion synthetics. From 1992 to1994, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Trieste in the field of seismic hazard assessment and microzonation. Since 1994 he has been with the Swiss Seismological Service. Dr. Fäh’s main professional interests are in the areas of seismic hazard assessment, site effects and microzonation, seismic ground motion modeling and historical earthquakes.
