Ash and Aviation Workshop 2013

Results

The work presented and discussed at the 2nd IUGG-WMO workshop held in Geneva on 18-20 November 2013 shows how the whole ash-aviation community, from research to operations, is working together to build the most capable system for aviation safety. Associated documents include:

  1. Program and Book of abstract
  2. Update of the Model Summary Document first compiled as a result of the 1st IUGG-WMO workshop and describing application conditions and outputs of selected Volcanic Ash Transport and Dispersal Models (i.e., ASH3D, ATHAM, FALL3D, FLEXPART, HYSPLIT, JMA-GATM, JMA-RATM, MLDP0, MOCAGE, NAME, PUFF, TEPHRA2, VOL-CALPUFF, WFR-Chem, REMOTE).
  3. Update of the Data-Acquisition Summary Document first compiled as a result of the 1st IUGG-WMO workshop and describing selected data-acquisition techniques associated with ash detection (i.e., AVHRR, GOES-11, Grimm EDM 107, Grimm Sky OPC, Weather-Radar (C band and X band), Infrasonic Array, IR-SO2, LIDAR, MISR, MODIS, MTSAT, OMI, PLUDIX, SEVIRI, Thermal Camera, UV Camera, VOLDORAD).
  4. Consensual Document reporting on the great deal of scientific progress made since 2010 and describing recommendations and research priorities for the ash-aviation community to move forward.
