New publication with amazing nannofossil pictures resulting from the Department SEM
The Department's Scanning Electron Microscopy Lab has produced amazing images of nannofossils reported in a new paper article. The paper includes a new nannofossil Genus from the Western Equatorial Atlantic Ocean, obtained from a ODP sample (Site 926). Binasphaera nucleonimbiformis, reported, is a tiny cosmopolitan species and extremely abundant during the Gelasian (approximately 2 Ma). It is a cold-water species, living in the upper photic zone, which was until now largely overlooked despite its great abundance, probably due to its extremly small size (1.4-2.9 micrometers).
