The bulk charge carried by single volcanic ash aggregates was measured for the first time in situ at Sakurajima Volcano (Japan), revealing the presence of inner highly charged multipoles. Such a promising strategy and key results provide a new understanding of the dynamics of volcanic ash sedimentation that can improve ash dispersal forecasting.
