Volcanic ash as a secondary volcanic hazard

Blown by the wind in specific environmental conditions, volcanic ash can be remobilised and suspended in the atmosphere generating an important secondary volcanic hazard. This study presents the case of the Patagonian steppe in Argentina and reveals the timescales at which volcanic particles are remobilised from primary deposits and how they deplete over time. The outcomes are fundamental to understand the associated processes and their effect over the long-term both on the environment and on the exposed communities.
